Supervisor – Commercial Plans Review – District of North Vancouver

Our Planning, Properties and Permits Division is looking for an experienced Supervisor – Commercial Plans Review to join the team. This is supervisory, technical and regulatory work primarily involving the examination and checking of the more complex plans and permit applications for compliance to building and zoning bylaws and related regulations; processing building permit issuances and rejections; discussing construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, engineers, architects, homeowners and the public; interpreting requirements; and advising on required changes and/or corrections. In this role, you will act in a senior capacity leading, supervising and mentoring the Commercial Plans Reviewers to ensure that commitments are met, and that work load is distributed evenly with adequate coverage to ensure a consistent and high level of service to the public. You will also provide guidance and assistance on the more complex and challenging projects as well as preparing development and work plans for the team.

The Senior Registration & Consumer Complaints Officer is responsible for reviewing and responding to builder and home warranty insurance complaints, and investigating de-enrollments and new home registration change requests. The position responds to complicated inquiries from consumers, residential builders, warranty providers, local governments and others regarding new home registration, home warranty insurance, consumer protection provisions, and provincial standards, and provides guidance and training to the Registry Coordinator on department policy and interpretation of the legislation. The incumbent also participates in the development and delivery of training programs for branch staff and the public regarding new home registrations, home warranty insurance, complaints and other Registration & Consumer Services functions.

Building Inspector 1 – District Of North Vancouver

In this role, your primary responsibility will be the inspection of residential, industrial and commercial projects during construction, alteration and repair to determine conformity with established bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations. You will also examine and check plans and permit applications for compliance to building and zoning bylaws and related regulations; process building permit issuances and rejections; discuss construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, engineers, architects, homeowners and the public; interpret requirements; advise on required changes and/or corrections and carry out other relevant duties as assigned by the Section Manager.

Building Inspector 3 – City of Burnaby

This is building inspectional and regulatory work at the full working level. An employee of this class inspects large or complex residential, commercial and industrial construction, repairs or alterations to ensure compliance with Building and Zoning by-laws and the BC Building Code. Field work involves inspecting construction to ensure that design, material, workmanship and safety features meet or exceed standards and conform to approved plans and specifications. Discusses construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, property owners and other interested parties; interprets applicable by-law requirements; advises architects, engineers, owners, contractors and tradespersons of construction changes or corrections required and checks to ensure that deficiencies are corrected; renders technical assistance as required. Surveys fire-damaged buildings prior to repair. Prepares reports on inspections and issues inspection notices when required standards have been satisfied. Ensures that builder has obtained all necessary service and utility inspections and clearances before passing building for framing and occupancy. Other duties include assisting in training of subordinate Building Inspectors, performing plan checking tasks on a temporary basis. Gives factual evidence in court and performs related work as required.
