The building official in-training (BOIT) or trainee qualification of building and plumbing officials was established to help local authorities meet the mandatory qualification requirements for building and plumbing officials.
The trainee class helps provide a way for individuals to start their career as a building or plumbing official. It can also help existing building and plumbing officials who want to achieve higher levels of qualification or require some additional time to complete their qualification exams. Being registered as a trainee allows individuals to temporarily work as building or plumbing officials at a level above their current standard classification. For more information, click here.
Before applying for a building official in-training qualification, the trainee must complete the trainee (BOIT) exam. For more information on this exam, you can review the exam content outline.
Once the exam is completed, individuals must submit a BOIT application. The Training Plan endorsed by the trainee, mentor, and employer must be submitted with the application
