Associate Certificate – Construction of Mass Timber Structures

The Associate Certificate in Construction of Mass Timber Structures (CMTS) offered by the BCIT School of Construction and the Environment is designed to provide students with (i) technical knowledge in mass timber construction and construction management of mass timber projects with an emphasis on the installation phase; (ii) practical skills in on-site installation of mass timber structures; and (iii) problem-solving, creativity and teamwork skills. This program has been developed for experienced Carpenters, Ironworkers and Installers with an interest in expanding their expertise to mass timber.

This program is a great training opportunity for building installers, tradespeople and building officials who are looking to enhance their skills and experience in mass timber construction.

Through BCIT’s partnership with the Future Ready Action Plan (BC Ministry of Advanced Education & Skills Training), they can offer a partial scholarship, subsidizing 35% of the tuition (value of $2,050) to enroll interested and eligible (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident) employees in the upcoming cohort, starting January 5, 2026.

The program is designed to allow participants to work full-time while they complete the bulk of their studies online on a part-time basis, needing only to attend BCIT in person for 2 weeks (June 15-26, 2026) to apply their learning in a hands-on environment. With the government-sponsored tuition subsidy, accepted students will only pay $3,783 for this great training opportunity.

Scholarships are limited, so please contact Christine Pinkham at cpinkham@bcit.ca to receive an application package. The deadline for submitting applications is December 12th.
