Chris Leek

Chris began his construction experience at the early age of six, helping with his family’s multi-generational residential construction business in the Greater Victoria Area, that has spanned more than 80 years. Enjoying construction of all types in the carpentry trade, Chris was encouraged to continue his education, and after completing the BCIT course, became a Building Official in 1998. In the past 20 years, Chris has enjoyed working for 4 of the 13 Municipalities, including the CRD in the Greater Victoria Area and Gulf Islands. Chris feels that working with each Municipality has broadened his experience and solution oriented approach to achieving Code compliance. His favorite expression to builders when asked if something is possible is; “the answer is yes, but how we get there is the question.”  In the past 10 years, Chris has had the opportunity to work with builders who focus on homes constructed with natural methods such as cob, straw-bale and rammed earth, and earth-ships. This has required working with alternative solutions and other methods to achieve the intended Building Code safety.

Chris is committed to continuing his education in order to advance safety in all areas of construction, and to be a resource for all builders and building methods. When not fulfilling his career goals, Chris is usually building his own home in Highlands or enjoying recreation by playing ultimate frisbee, disc golf, and exploring Vancouver Island by mountain bike and motorcycle.
