Jay began his construction career in Toronto, Ontario before moving to BC’s lower mainland in 2014. Working as a Red Seal carpenter and later as a licensed home builder, Jay gained valuable knowledge and experience before moving into a regulatory role in 2020. Currently working as the Chief Building Official with the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, Jay spends the majority of his time reviewing and overseeing construction in the Sea-to-Sky Corridor while working with individual homeowners to rebuild post-wildfire. He holds the designation of Wildfire Mitigation Specialist from FireSmart BC and is an active member of his Regional District’s Emergency Operations Centre. He also travels extensively throughout Canada’s north as a building safety consultant.
Jay currently volunteers as a co-chair of the Community Energy Association’s Building Officials’ Peer Network while also being a new member of the BOABC’s Executive Committee.
When not at work, he can be found out in the garden or his greenhouse, or working on his degree in technology from Thompson Rivers University.
