Will Johnston is currently the Chief Building Official and Executive Director for the City of Toronto. Will has over 20 years of building regulatory experience with the Cities of Toronto and Vancouver. He is a professional engineer with an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of British Columbia.
In Will’s current role as Chief Building Official for the City of Toronto he is responsible for strategic leadership and direction of Toronto Building. Toronto Building is responsible for the administration and enforcement of provincial and municipal building regulations and bylaws, where the primary responsibility is established through the Province of Ontario’s Building Code Act. Will also serves on the Executive of Ontario’s Large Municipalities Chief Building Officials.
Prior to joining the City of Toronto, Will held the position of Chief Building Official for the City of Vancouver where he was responsible for the development, implementation and administration of the City’s Building Code, including the Certified Professional Program, Property Standards and Business Licensing.
