Tyler Wightman

Tyler came to the Association in October 2020 after spending the past 15 years working in Alberta’s building regulatory system.  Prior to joining the Association, Tyler had worked at the Safety Codes Council since 2012 where he most recently served as the Director of Operations.  In this role, he oversaw the certification and training of safety codes officers, accreditation and auditing of municipalities, corporations and agencies, and complaint investigations. Tyler also served as Director of Corporate Strategy and Communications and the Administrator of Certification at the Council.  As Administrator of Certification, he was appointed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs to be responsible for developing and delivering certification programs for safety codes officers and master electricians.  Between 2005 and 2011, Tyler worked in various policy and management capacities within the Public Safety Division of Alberta Municipal Affairs, which is the government department responsible for the Safety Codes Act.

Tyler, who is originally from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (History) from Vancouver Island University, and a Master of Arts Degree (Political Science) from the University of Calgary. He also completed the Executive and Public Executive programs at Queen’s University, and holds Prosci change management certification.
