Building Inspectors play a critical role in regulating construction, including building envelopes. Poorly designed or installed building envelopes will have long-term implications on a building’s health. As well, there is some confusion and misconceptions about air barriers and vapour barriers in the construction industry. Understanding the science behind building envelopes will help us be in a better position to challenge poor designs or installations and thus prevent future unnecessary repairs.
