Ken Kunka

Since graduating from Confederation College in 1992 (Thunder Bay) with a degree in Architectural Technology Design, I have had the privilege of working with a lot of great people in various areas of BC as a framer, consultant, designer and over 26 years as a Building Official. I am currently living in Summerland with my family and have been with the City of Penticton for over 11 years as a Building and Permitting Manager. In 2007 I was certified as an Applied Science Technologist and continue my membership with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC). I stepped away from full time municipal inspections to pursue a design and consulting business in the Okanagan from 2008 to 2011, which highlighted the need for consistency of procedures and code interpretation in our industry.

Having worked on both sides of the counter – my background in municipal regulations, leadership, design and construction has given me a unique perspective on the daily operations and challenges that BOABC members face. This experience has given me a greater understanding on how critical proper communication, building industry-wide relationships, transparency and online education are to move the association and building industry forward together.

I see this as a critical juncture for the Association & I look forward to serving the BOABC membership.
