Course Description: This course covers airtightness and low-TEDI enclosure construction for zero energy/emissions or Passive House buildings for Part 9 wood-frame construction. The course will help learners develop their knowledge of airtightness and low thermal demand (low-TEDI) building enclosures highlighting better practices and areas of concern in design documents and construction. Students will develop a firm understanding of assembly details, material selection and compatibility, construction approaches, sequencing and coordination for zero energy/emissions or Passive House buildings.
Course topics will be applied to the role and responsibilities of building officials by developing understanding of what to look for during permitting, plan reviews, site inspections, and monitoring of related construction metrics. Key topics include the airtightness, high R-value enclosure details, thermal bridging, assembly interfaces, windows, mechanical and electrical penetrations, and embodied carbon of materials.
Please note that you will need to provide a BCIT ID number to BOABC when you register for this course. If you can not remember your 9-digit BCIT ID number or you need to create a BCIT ID, please visit myBCIT to create or recover your BCIT ID number.
